SSOMONCA is an environmental organization that has made is mission the restoration of the ecological balance in the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. The ecology in the area is threatened by widespread contamination of soil, groundwater damage and poisons existing in the water of the Sosua River, which puts the survival of flora and fauna, both land and sea, in great danger.

Many endangered species such as whales, dolphins and fish are disappearing or have disappeared. The health of the population is at risk due to air pollution, often the product of the air and contaminated ground water and river health. For example, the Dominican Republic has a disproportionate occurrence of kidney stones within its population that can be directly tied to these poor environmental conditions.. SOMONCA is dedicated to solving some of the systemic problems by taking specific actions for the environment. This will be done with the cooperation of national and international agencies in raising the necessary resources. SOMONCA has the necessary expertise, but needs the financial resources provided for these actions to be successful when executed.
SOMONCA intends to field staff and environmental experts from the local population in Sosua, Cabarete, Monte Llano and is recruiting volunteers. SOMONCA is working hard to education the location population that environmental pollution is threatening their survival and that of their beautiful portion of the Island of Hispaniola. It is a threat to their income, because the tourism industry will continue to decline as the resources are destroyed. It is also a threat to the fishing industry and to the future of their children unless we can find lasting solutions to these serious ecological problems. Unless a change in public attitudes towards the environment occurs, the problem of environmental pollution for the future will remain unresolved. For this reason, SOMONCA will continue to work to effectively address environmental pollution issues, bringing attention to the problems through education and training of the population.

The Company Ecological Cabarete-Sosua-Montellano (SOMONCA) plays an important role in the environmental protection efforts. As an entity, SOMONCA will be at the forefront of the environmental effort and denounce acts that harm the environment and the species of plants and animals so important to the survival of the local ecosystem. While SOMONCA is currently focusing its efforts on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, the organization is open to all sectors of the country who wish to identify and resolve ecological issues. We have a big challenge ahead, and we are conscious of the hard work we must do to maintain a balance in nature.

We know that around the world, there are individuals and entities that are as concerned about the serious environmental problems as we are. For this reason, we call on you to contribute a grain of sand to solving the issues we face. Together we can overcome these serious environmental hazards.
