Garbage "La Union"
For many years this field has been a garbage dump in the Dominican Republic where scavengers work, and it is considered to be the most natural thing in the world!
People still do not realize the danger presented by the emission of large quantities of methane gas and CO2 with highly dangerous substances that result damage to the already taxed in the ozone layer.
SOMONCA would like to bring a recycling program here from the Netherlands to solve this problelm.
Although this is expensive and a huge investment for this country, ultimately it will be a profitable venture, eliminating emissions harmful gases that affect the ozone layer, and damage of the underground rivers that pose a serious hazard to our drinking water.
The contaminated gases are also very bad for health, especially the 45% of the population of the village, "La Union" the 4000 residents the live closest to the field of garbage. These residents display many problems in the lungs, have headaches and can not sleep because of the odors.
The International Airport Gregorio Luperón "is two miles from the landfill and it is also very much affected by the unpleasant odor when the wind blows in that direction. It certainly does not make a impression on tourists!
SOMONCA, LTD., Ecological Society plans to address the growing disaster of the Sosua River and promote the planting of trees that eat organic soils, to thereby minimize harmful gases and produce oxygen, which is a very good solution for now.
